NO CEASE FIRE? Boko Haram Abducts 30 Boys, Girls in Fresh Attack

Breaking news report on AFP , around 30 adolescents some of the girls as young as 11 and the boys about 13 have been abducted in northeast Nigeria by suspected Boko Haram rebels.

"The insurgents... grabbed young people, boys and girls, from our region," said Alhaji Shettima Maina, who is in charge of the Mafa village around 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

"They took all boys aged 13 and over... and all girls aged 11 and more. According to our information, 30 young people were abducted in the last two days."

Another village elder, Mallam Ashiekh Mustapha, confirmed the account. Both men said 17 people were also killed in recent days in a Boko Haram attack on the nearby village of Ndongo. Boko Haram, which has been waging a bloody insurgency since 2009, has been responsible for waves of attacks and abductions.

Sometime In April, the Islamist rebel group snatched more than 200 schoolgirls from Chibok in northeast Nigeria, triggering an international outcry. Kidnapping young women and girls -- as well as forcibly conscripting young men and boys to fight for Boko Haram -- is a well-established tactic by the militants. Some estimates put the number of women held by the group in the high hundreds. Most are believed to be forced into marriages with rebels.

The latest kidnapping comes despite the Nigerian government declaring a truce with the insurgents and the army retaking control of Abadam in the north-east on Saturday, according to a senior security official in the region. But local chief Maina said his village and areas around it were targeted in nearly daily raids by Boko Haram, and many residents have fled to Maiduguri "for fear of being killed or losing their children". He said he had pleaded for help from the Nigerian government but that so far none had been forthcoming.

There was chaos at the Ugbowo Campus of the University of Benin on friday, after a 300-level student of the university from Chemistry department, Gbenedio Ejiroghene, was murdered by unknown gunmen.

Ejiroghene, who is popularly known as Kazito was partaking in a Jeans Carnival organised for final year students of the Faculty of Physical Sciences at 1000-Lecture Theatre field of the faculty when he was shot in the head by the assailants at about 7pm on Friday.

According to PUNCHNG A source in the institution, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that the late chemistry student was on probation until his death and was often spotted in the final year class of the department.
The source said, “He was in 300-level and was on probation. But he was not always in his class.
“A final-year Jeans Carnival was on that day for the faculty and students were having fun. So, he joined them. Suddenly, we heard a gunshot.
“We didn’t even know that he was the one that was shot. It was later that we saw him on the ground.”

Public Relations Officer of the institution, Harris Osarenren, who confirmed the incident, said that the remains of the man had been deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

He also disclosed that the case had been reported to the Ugbowo Police State while investigation was ongoing.
He said, “The incident which took place at the Ugbowo Campus of the University has been reported at the Ugbowo Police Station, while the body has been deposited at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City.

“Investigation is on-going by the Nigeria Police to unravel the circumstance surrounding his death.”
Efforts to reach the Public Relations Unit of the Edo State Police Command, however, proved abortive at the time of filing the report.

Student allowed to bring religious knife to class

I know absolutely nothing about the Sikh faith. But i am against any kind of weapons in schools or class, which includes cutlery.

Like all religions , the Sikh faith is steeped in tradition. One of the most revered is the carrying of a "Kirpan", a sword or dagger, at all times.

"People will even wear it in the shower. It's kind of hard for others to understand," said Jaswinder Singh, spokesman for the Gurudwara Sikh Center of Seattle.

The concept of the Kirpan, considered an instrument of social justice, is taught to children at an early age.
"For the people who are formally initiated to the Kirpan, it's very near and dear," said Singh.
But some question whether it is appropriate to bring to school.

A few weeks ago at Auburn's Gildo Rey Elementary, a Sikh family approached the school telling them their little boy would be carrying a Kirpan every day.
That didn't sit well with some.
One school volunteer named Shelby, who asked her last name not be used, said respecting religion goes too far if it compromises student safety.
"There's no way I'd go back until the knife was gone," she said.

Shelby does not volunteer at Gildo Rey.
"They can't take that thing into the airport.

TSA would be all over it. Why is a school any different?" she asked.
District administrators are citing state and federal guidelines that allow certain exceptions to Washington's "zero tolerance" for weapons policy.
They say there are plenty of Sikhs, both students and staff, who have carried Kirpans to school for years without incident.

In this case, the knife is to be kept under the child's clothes at all times.

"The knife can't come out. It can't be shown around. It needs to be underneath their clothing," said Auburn Assistant Superintendent of Schools Ryan Foster. "That allows them to express their religion without jeopardizing anyone's feeling of safety. If there are any problems, we will take it to the family, but we don't expect any."

Police recover battered head of slain youth in Lagos

Nigerian police recovered the severed head of a 28-year-old man, Ibikunle Tunde, who was killed during the cult clash in Mushin and Fadeyi areas of Lagos State last week.
The head was recovered on Ojelade Street, Fadeyi, on Thursday by security operatives from the Alakara Police Station.

The deceased, who had been linked to a murder last Monday, was killed in an apparent reprisal.
A resident said,

“In the morning of Monday last week, a lottery agent, Sheriff Alasia, was killed. Tunde, who is believed to have been among the killers, was attacked on the night of that very day. He was shot several times while his head was chopped off".

“His body was recovered by the police but his head remained missing for almost four days. The killers were playing with the head in the neighbourhood and we reported to the police. On Thursday night, policemen came to Ojelade Street to recover the head.”

Sources from PUNCH metro reported that at least three people were killed during a clash involving two rival cult groups in the area.
The groups, Toba’s boys and Toheeb’s gang, have been embroiled in a long time supremacy fight which has left scores dead from both sides in the recent past.
Our correspondent reported that trouble started last week when some hoodlums belonging to the Toba group went on the rampage over the detention of their leader, Oloruntoba Joel.

They were said to have torn posters belonging to the All Progressives Congress because the party did not intervene in what they felt was a persecution of their leader.
Hoodlums belonging to Toheeb’s group were said to have led some policemen to the stronghold of Toba’s gang to make arrests for the rampage.
In the process, gunshots were reportedly fired at some of the hoodlums, which made them reinforce to repel the attack.
In the ensuing attacks and gun battle which lasted for about four days, three people lost their lives.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, told PUNCH metro on Sunday that Tunde’s head had been recovered.

“I can confirm to you that our men have recovered the head,” he said.

A source told our correspondent that the severed head had been sewed to the rest of the body.

Many Killed In Borno After Boko Haram Agreed To “Cease fire”

The Nigerian government announced that it entered into a cease-fire deal with Boko Haram on Friday 17th oct. Barely 24 hours after the announcement was made , the terrorist group attacked two communities in Borno State.

According to SAHARA REPORTERS  Armed Boko Haram fighters in two Hilux vehicles stormed Maikadiri in Abadam Local Government, in the northern part of Borno on Friday evening, shooting sporadically into villagers' homes and killed many people.
Modu Kaka, a local government official who spoke about his relation with Maiduguri from Niger, said "we lost many people in our village to Boko Haram yesterday, and many people were seriously injured."

We learned that the father of the immediate speaker of BSOH was also shot dead by the militants. He said the insurgents also killed the father of the former speaker of Borno State parliament, Goni Ali Modu.
Also, in a renewed attack on Shaffa, Hawul Local Government, south of Borno on Saturday morning, dozens of Boko Haram rode to a village near the town in the early hours shooting indiscriminately. Eight people were killed, said Bulus Yakubu, a resident there.

He disclosed that his brother, who left Maiduguri on Friday morning and spent the night in Biu and proceeded to Shaffa on Saturday morning, reported the attack.

"My brother called from the bush where he was hiding this morning and said there was pandemonium in Shaffa as Boko Haram has invaded the a village near the town, shooting at everybody at sight. He fled from the motor park into the bush. He is still in the bush as I am talking to you now," he disclosed.

Shaffa is about 240 kilometres from Maiduguri; a provincial capital. It came under heavy attack by the insurgents in late September when at least 20 people including a school teacher were killed by the insurgents. Many houses were also set ablaze.

University of Ibadan graduate allegedly absconds with $14,400 meant for 144 corpers: HIS RESPONSE

On Tuesday the 14th day of October I posted an article as regards a University of Ibadan graduate who allegedly absconded with 14,400$ meant for 144 youth corpers. If you missed it read it HERE. I woke up this morning to his reply.... Read it below

Aside the tenable fact that I graduated from University of Ibadan; a reputable frontier of knowledge where graduates worthy in character and sound judgment are groomed, I loathe activities capable of negating my integrity and hitherto spiting my father's hard earned name. In all, I find it difficult to ascertain what individuals tend to gain from wanton damage to one's reputation.

On Tuesday, the 14th of Oct, a friend of mine called my attention to an infamous viral piece that had spread like wildfire on the internet which detailed clusters of harmful and unjustified allegations about me. I thought it was a joke but after my swift internet view, I became utterly dejected and shocked to my bone marrow with my jaw dropped as I read every line of that shocking news. Shortly, calls came flying in from friends, family and colleagues who knew I'd never ventured into such impish act. After listening to my side of the narration, Many urged me to sue for defamation while others besieged me to write a rejoinder. Apparently, they believed I was incapable of any iota of corrosive tendency. For hours, I couldn't even document anything but latter I summoned the strength of defending my cherished personality against parlous information on the internet. Thus I have these to reel off:
Sequel to the election, some Corp members approached me asking me about what they stand to get from the politicians and even went to the extent of gratuitously given them my phone number. In response, I apprised them in respect of pivotal responsibilities of Corp members explaining my position as being in Osun State to serve my fatherland and not to engage in political gimmicks. My words fell on deaf ears because their minds were made up that cash inflow from Osun state bigwigs is certain.

In the article released, I was accused that I bought a car and an apartment out of 2.3 million in this present Nigeria. How is that possible ? This calls for a logical reasoning... At present, I still stand not understand the poster's definition of 'Abscond' because on the 26th of July, 2014, all the schools in Osun State went on holiday and out of 100% corp members in Iwo Local Government, 95% teach in secondary school (Place of Primary assignment). Also, Majority traveled because it's a long break. That I as well did in a bid to meet my family. So, should I not have traveled to check on family and friends in Ibadan because I'm the CLO (Corper Liaison Officer) ? But mischief makers tagged my traveling as  'Abscond' even when schools resumed on the 8th of October, 2014.

As regards some salient issues raised in the detrimental report, here are fundamental questions a sound mind should ask:
1. What is the name of the benevolent politician who gave the money ?
2.What is the money meant for ?
3.Where did the person give me the money ?
4. When is the money paid ?
5. Who witnessed it ?
6. Is it INEC's money or Corpers allowance ?

Conclusively, I'd like to reiterate that I am not privy or involved in this alleged sinister act capable of denting my name and that of my great citadel of learning, University of Ibadan. Thanks.

Neil Harris will be the host of the 2015 Oscar awards .

According to UsaToday this is the first time the star, currently appearing in Gone Girl, will host the show, which airs on ABC and in 225 countries.
He's got plenty of experience: Harris has memorably hosted the Tony Awards four times and the Emmys twice, to great success.
Variety was first to report the news, noting that Harris appears to be going for an EGOT sweep; after the Oscars, the only show he's got left to conquer is the Grammys.
The actor is no slouch in the awards department, either. He's won four Emmys and this year took home a Tony for the lead role in the musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
Ellen DeGeneres hosted the last Oscars.

According to DailyMail the world's largest cruise ship arrived in the UK today for the first time.
The £800m Oasis Of The Seas sailed into Southampton at 10am on Wednesday in dense fog, welcomed by a crowd of hundreds and helicopters circling overhead.
Weighing 225,282 tonnes, the 1,187ft ship is longer than London's The Shard is tall, and at 208ft wide, larger than the wingspan of a Boeing 747.
Passengers will be boarding all afternoon and it leaves Southampton for Vigo, Spain, and Fort Lauderale, Florida, tonight.
The Royal Caribbean cruise ship is 40 per cent larger than any other vessel to ever dock in the UK, and has the capacity to house 5,400 passengers and 2,394 crew.
It is the first time the impressive ship, which took three years to build in Turku, Finland and launched in 2009, has visited the UK.

Oasis Of The Seas uses 2,350,000 litres of water every day and houses over 10,000 square metres of retail space, 37 bars and over 20 restaurants.
Spread across its 16 decks is an outdoor park with more than 12,000 real plants and trees, an 82-foot long zip wire, and the largest pool on the seas.
There is also a 750-seater arena, ice rink, surf machines, a high-diving performance venue and an elevating bar.
Onlookers this morning were kept in good spirits despite the grey weather with free tea and bacon sandwiches offered by Royal Caribbean.

It is a busy time for Southampton, with another Royal Caribbean ship, Quantum Of The Seas, expected to dock in just over a fortnight to be showcased.
The first in a series of new ships coming from Royal Caribbean International over the next few years, Quantum of the Seas will sail from Southampton to New York on 2 November 2014.
In 2015 Quantum Of The Seas will become the newest ship from a global cruise line to ever be based in the Far East when it offers cruises from Shanghai starting in June 2015.

The world is not doing enough to fight Ebola', says Obama

United States president Barack Obama has condemned the international community for failing to do enough to counter the global Ebola threat.
Obama was speaking after a meeting in Washington with allied military leaders to discus the threat posed by ISIS and Islamic militants.

The President said 'the world is not doing enough' to counter the threat posed by Ebola.

The president also offered thoughts and prayers to a Dallas nurse being treated for Ebola after she helped care for a Liberian man who died from the disease. Obama says he wants lessons learned from that case to be applied to hospitals around the country.
Since the president's announcement, a second nurse who treated US Ebola 'patient zero' Thomas Eric Duncan has been diagnosed with the disease.
It is understood that Obama will seek additional funds from congress to battle the disease.

So far, the US has committed more than $1 billion in federal funds. Congress is expected to consider proposals to increase the aid effort once it reconvenes next month.
White House Budget Director Shaun Donovan said: 'Our expectation is that we will be talking to Congress about additional needs.'
Among the money already committed, $30 million has been promised to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Also, an additional $750 million has been allocated to the Defense Department to support military efforts in countering Ebola.

The Pentagon  had asked Congress to move $1 billion earmarked for war fighting to counter Ebola.
US troops are set to be deployed in West Africa to support civil authorities in countering the deadly outbreak.
In a bid to secure a global response to the Ebola crisis, President Obama will host a video conference with world leaders to discuss the outbreak. Other items on the agenda include ISIS and the situation in Ukraine.

Nigerians found guilty of trafficking after forcing two Nigerian women into prostitution and making them eat snakes as "juju"

A Nigerian woman has been found guilty of people trafficking after she forced two Nigerian women into prostitution by making them eat snakes in an African black magic ceremony.

Lizzy Idahosa, 24, and her husband Jackson Omoruyi, 41, made more than £70,000 out of the women, who were terrified with voodoo and made see a witchdoctor for a sinister 'juju' ceremony.

Both are now facing jail after Idahosa was convicted of trafficking the women, inciting them to become prostitutes and transferring criminal property, while Omoruyi was found guilty of money laundering.

During the couple's trial at Cardiff Crown Court, the jury was told that the two victims, aged 23 and 29, had their pubic hair shaved and forced to eat live snakes and snails as part of the ritual, and then flown to Britain in the belief that they were going to find a better life.

However, when they arrived in the UK they were put to work as prostitutes, working in brothels at massage parlours across England and Wales.... Culled

United Nation worker dies of Ebola in Germany

I honestly cannot wait for this Ebola issue to be out of the news for good, Ebola has killed more than 3000 people in the past months .

CNN just reported that United Nations medical worker who was infected with Ebola while working in Liberia has died in Germany.

His death further raises questions of just how equipped health officials are in dealing with cases of the disease.

The 56-year-old man was Sudanese, a spokesman for the St. Georg hospital in Leipzig said Tuesday. He was being treated in a secure isolation ward there. And the clinic said last week that its doctors and medical staff were "perfectly prepared" for the task.

Following the man's death, Germany is treating only one other Ebola patient, according to St. Georg hospital spokesman Constantin Sauff.

The other patient is being treated in Frankfurt, he said. Another patient who was being treated in Hamburg has been as been discharged from hospital after recovering, Sauff said.

A Spanish nurse's assistant last week became the first person to contract the virus in Europe in the current outbreak.

And a nurse in Dallas, Texas, was confirmed as the first to have contracted the virus in the United States.

The nurse, Nina Pham, had cared for Liberian national Thomas Eric Duncan, who contracted Ebola in Liberia and died of the illness at the hospital.

Liberia is one of the countries worst affected by the deadly virus, along with Sierra Leone and Guinea. The World Health Organization estimates more than 4,000 people have died from confirmed or suspected cases of the virus.

The nurse's assistant in Spain remains in critical condition and is having trouble breathing, authorities said. The European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said the Madrid hospital where Teresa Romero Ramos is being treated doesn't meet all the standards set for centers capable of Ebola care.

Two killed In PDP And APC Clash

According to FCM News A lottery agent, Sheriff Alasia, was on Monday shot dead during a brutal cult clash at the Fadeyi end of Ikorodu Road,
Lagos State.
Punch’s correspondent, who visited the area, learnt that the killing was as a result of a clash between thugs loyal to the All Progressive Congress on the one hand, and thugs loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party on the other.
A resident said the 30-year-old victim was married and had a son.
The deceased, who was a Premier Lotto agent, was said to have been caught in the gunfire on Ikorodu Road, and died on the spot.

Mushin area of Lagos had been a hotbed of violent cult clashes between two groups- Toba gang and Toheeb boys.
While the Toba gang is loyal to the APC, Toheeb’s boys are of the PDP.
The two groups were said to be engaged in a battle for supremacy ahead of the 2015 elections.
However, around 7pm same day, Punch learnt another resident, identified only as Tunde, had been beheaded in a calculated reprisal attack. A source said, “They first riddled his body with
bullets before beheading him; they also took his head with them. What we have left here is his stump.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, regretted Alasia’s death, adding that the
police did all it could to prevent it.

Smoker's legs almost torn off after e-cigarette EXPLODES

I do not smoke and also do not have anything against smokers, so please be careful when trying new gadgets ...

According to  Dailymail A smoker who switched to e-cigarettes for health reasons has described the horrific moment the device nearly blew his legs off.
David Aspinall's e-cigarette left him fighting for his life, after it overheated and exploded - showering his limbs with metal.
The 48-year-old, from Wigan, nearly lost his flat in the blaze that followed - and spent nine days in hospital recovering from the ordeal.

He claims that medics likened his injuries to bullet wounds - and says he is lucky to be alive.
Mr Aspinall, who may need three years of skin grafts to recover, told The Sun: 'It glowed and burned in my hand. I dropped it and it exploded.

'There was lots of blood, a huge hole in one leg and a gash in the other.'
'It could have blown my head off,' he added. 'The surgeon said it was like someone had used a gun.'

Despite his terrible injuries, he managed to stagger to a neighbour, who described the scene as similar to a horror film.
As well as his leg, metal from the exploding e-cigarette had embedded itself in much of Mr Aspinall's furniture.

Having switched to e-cigarettes for health reasons, he has now reverted to regular tobacco, branding it 'safer'.
He claims the shop that sold him the e-cigarette blamed faulty batteries.

The incident come after a 62-year-old man in Merseyside died in August, in what was thought to be Britain's first death from an exploding e-cigarette.
Investigators believe the blaze started when an e-cigarette that was charging in the bedroom exploded and set fire to an oxygen concentrator - thought to have been used by the victim, David Thompson.
It is believed he was using a third-party charger that did not come with the original e-cigarette.
In May, a mother and her two young children fled for their lives when an e-cigarette exploded, setting their flat on fire.
A fireman told Keeley Cooper, 22, the clouds of toxic smoke could have killed her and her sons Ellis, five, and Riegan, two, if they had been asleep.
