Ebola: NUT rejects September 22 school resumption, directs its members to remain at home

The National Union of Teachers (NUT) has refused to obey Federal Government's directive that all primary and secondary schools be re-opened on September 22, 2014. The body is arguing that the government is yet to put the necessary equipment in place in schools to prevent the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). It has also argued that most of its teachers have not been trained yet on the best way to prevent the Virus.
NUT has therefore directed its members nationwide to stay away from schools until it is convinced "beyond reasonable doubt" that the government has provided all preventive and protective gadgets such as infra-red thermometers, sanitizers, running water, gloves and teachers adequately trained.
The body took this position in Abuja on Tuesday while addressing newsmen. Its National President made the announcement on behalf of the NUT.

  1. I am of the opinion of what the NUT body is saying; necessary measures have to put in place to check mate or curtail any outbreak because we cannot categorically said we are free from EVD; so far this disease still exist in west Africa, we will always be at risk. Children are prone to pick up this virus from their mate if their mate is exhibiting signs of this disease because of the manner they play with their mates, so necessary precautions has to set on ground to prevent outbreak. But being the black race we are, let this not be an avenue to embezzled resources, federal govt has to set a monitoring team to monitor and supervise any money mapped out for this agenda so it can be utilise judiciously.
